BIRAC has been supporting startups, companies, and academic and research institutions through BIRAC-PATH (Patenting & Technology Transfer for Harnessing Innovations), a dedicated programme providing end-to-end patent facilitation support for biotech innovations in India and abroad.
Intellectual property is often a valuable asset for an early-stage biotech venture. A well-protected innovation strengthens a startup's position when engaging with investors, partners, and customers and provides a stronger foundation for licensing, technology transfer and expansion into new markets. However, the cost and complexity associated with Patenting can be a significant barrier. Therefore, to help biotech ventures protect and leverage their innovations, the programme offers:
· Support for Patent drafting and filing in India (Provisional and Complete)
· Support for PCT and Convention route filing including National phase countries
· Strategic guidance and hand-holding from BIRAC throughout the patenting process
What's New
The programme has now been extended to non-BIRAC supported startups/MSMEs incubated at BioNEST Centres, working in the fields of Biotechnology, Life Sciences, MedTech and related sectors.
The BIRAC-PATH Programme is currently active and applications are open for eligible entities to avail patent facilitation support. Applications can be submitted until 21st October 2026, 17:30 hrs.
